Using augmented reality, our app transports you back to the time of the Roman Emperor Trajan, who reigned around 100 AD. Watch the historic Roman fort at Ruffenhofen come back to life before you. Videos, panoramas, and text information accompany you on a tour through the area. With the help of a new map showing the current topography, or using a historical map, you can walk through the ancient fort and visit major buildings and sites of Roman life at the Limes. The administrative centre, the barracks, the vicus, the market, the cemetery, and many other places are waiting to be explored. Its possible to switch from one map to the other and also to locate your position with GPS. There are pictures and texts about each site; short videos describe aspects of the daily life of the soldier December - who really was stationed in Ruffenhofen; and impressive panoramas in augmented reality show how this area looked roughly 1,800 years ago. Not only that: archaeological finds have been "hidden" in the panoramas. Once they have been found, you can access additional pictures and information about the objects.

There are a few sites here where some of these functions can only be accessed directly in Ruffenhofen. But: A visit to the fort and the newly built LIMESEUM is well worth the trip!

Please Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
